While practically everyone I know is “up north” (including my husband) I am in town and spent the day with my mom and brother. It was a great day that included talking, laughing, eating, and a Target run, followed by a movie. My mom and I decided to watch “V is for Vendetta” which is such a great movie. I had seen this movie long ago, but forgot how powerful and inspiring it is. As I watched “V” stand up and take on the government, I couldn’t help think of ways I could stand up for marriage equality.
How do we get and inspire people to rise up and demand marriage rights for the GLBT community? What can I as an individual do for this cause? What is it going to take to make this happen? These are questions I often think to myself. It is a little daunting to think of considering all of the amazing organizations out there dedicated to this very goal. Why haven’t we succeeded? What is it going to take?
The only answer I can come up with is it is going to take all of us rising up together. One thing I know for certain is that the GLBT community can not do this alone, it is going to require the will of the heterosexual community as well. It is going to require people like me and those of you reading. People who already have the right to marry need to realize how important it is and stand up and demand a change.
